About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: New York Nursing License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Previous charge experience preferred Description: This unit has a total of 37 beds. Staffing ratios are 1 nurse to 9 patients on all shifts. Float to other medical/surgical units may be required. Weekend coverage is every other weekend or 4 shifts per month. This is a typical medical-surgical telemetry unit. Most patients are elderly and may have diseases related to respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal systems, and neurologic issues. There is potential for orthopedic patients in overflow situations. The unit operates on a Care Delivery Model utilizing teams of 1 RN, 1 LPN, and 1 PCT for up to 9 patients. Modified teams are used when complete teams are not available. Skills required include accessing/managing ports, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, and telemetry monitoring. Other key skills involve managing central lines, chest tubes, and various respiratory and cardiac interventions.
