Our work depends on a Cloud Infrastructure Manager joining our program to lead the Infrastructure team responsible for operating and maintaining the infrastructure components in the production and non-production environments of these enterprise-scale, mission-critical systems: IDENT, HART, and the OBIM Cloud System (OCS). In this role, you will manage infrastructure across a Government data center, Government-utilized Equinix data centers, and multiple cloud environments (including AWS GovCloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)), oversee the O&M of hundreds of physical and virtual server endpoints and a petabyte-scale storage solution, and work proactively, collaboratively, and with an entrepreneurial spirit in providing O&M support to the customer and their Stakeholder communities in achieving their critical missions. This is a hands-on technical and people leadership position in a fast-paced work environment requiring deep infrastructure expertise, strong people and vendor management skills, and experience operating in highly regulated, high-availability environments.

Team & Operational Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary Infrastructure team responsible for 24x7 operations and maintenance of on-premises and cloud infrastructure
• Establish and enforce best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and runbooks for infrastructure operations, maintenance, and incident response
• Prioritize and manage work intake, including O&M activities, upgrades, migrations, and modernization projects, balancing mission needs, risk, and resource availability
• Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, automation, and customer service across the Infrastructure team

Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

• Oversee day-to-day O&M of ~2000 server endpoints (on-premise and cloud-hosted) and associated storage, backup, and infrastructure services and tools
• Ensure high availability, performance, capacity, and resilience of the supported infrastructure
• Manage lifecycle activities including provisioning, patching, upgrades, decommissioning, and refresh of compute, storage, and virtualization components
• Oversee backup, archival, and recovery operations for petabyte-scale data
• Partner with application, development, and security teams to ensure cloud and on-prem infrastructure meet performance, scalability, compliance, and security requirements
• Oversee infrastructure tooling / applications

Service Delivery, Reliability, & Performance

• Own infrastructure-related service levels for availability, performance, incident response, and change execution; implement metrics and reporting to ensure adherence
• Support root-cause analysis (RCA) and problem management for major incidents, ensuring infrastructure-related corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked
• Implement and refine capacity planning for compute, storage, and cloud resources to meet current and projected workload demands
• Collaborate closely with application, database, network, security, and development teams to proactively identify performance bottlenecks and plan improvements

Security, Compliance, & Governance

• Ensure infrastructure operations comply with DHS, OBIM, and federal security and compliance requirements, including relevant directives, standards, and Authority to Operate (ATO) conditions
• Partner with security team, customer ISSOs, and DHS compliance teams to support audits, security assessments, POA&M remediation, and continuous monitoring
• Support implementation of hardening baselines, patch management, configuration management, and access controls across all managed platforms

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

• Serve as a primary point of contact for infrastructure-related issues and planning with program leadership, the customer, and cross-functional teams
• Communicate clearly and effectively with DHS/OBIM and other stakeholders regarding infrastructure status, risks, changes, and improvements
• Coordinate with OEMs, cloud service providers, and third-party vendors for escalations, upgrades, and roadmap alignment

Planning & Modernization

• Contribute to multi-year infrastructure roadmaps, including modernization, capacity growth, technology refresh, and cloud adoption strategies
• Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and optimization to increase reliability, reduce operational risk, and lower total cost of ownership
• Support proposal and business development activities related to infrastructure scope, including level-of-effort estimates, technical approaches, and risk assessments

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bring your technology expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT. The Cloud Infrastructure Manager must have:

• Education : Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
• Experience : 5+ years of related experience
• Technical skills : experience in infrastructure engineering/operations, including experience in large-scale, mission-critical environments; experience leading technical teams or managing infrastructure operations in on-premise, hybrid, and/or cloud context; hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS GovCloud, OCI, or similar) in an operations or engineering leadership role; hands-on experience with enterprise virtualization (VMware), Linux (RHEL) and/or AIX administration, and large-scale storage/SAN environments; and experience operating in secure government, federal civilian, or other highly regulated environments, with familiarity in compliance and audit requirements.
• Security clearance level : Public Trust (DHS HQ EOD required to start; must be able to obtain DHS HQ Final Suitability)
• US citizenship required
• Role requirements : work location - hybrid from GDIT's offices in Herndon, Virginia; proven leadership and people-management skills, including coaching, performance management, and building high-performing teams strong technical depth across compute, storage, virtualization, and cloud, with the ability to dive into details when needed; excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, especially under time pressure and operational constraints; strong written and oral communication skills; able to translate complex technical issues for non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership; and an ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining focus on mission outcomes and reliability.
• Preferred Skills : Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; 8–10+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering/operations, including substantial experience in enterprise-scale, mission-critical environments; 3–5+ years of experience leading technical teams or managing infrastructure operations in on-premise, hybrid, and/or cloud context; experience managing infrastructure supporting high-volume transactional systems, large-scale databases, and/or biometric or identity management solutions; direct experience operating infrastructure workloads in a secure, regulated federal environment hosted in AWS GovCloud (US) and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), including hybrid connectivity to on-prem data centers and hands-on use of relevant services (e.g., EC2/OCI Compute, VPC/VCN networking, load balancers, block/object storage, IAM, CloudWatch/OCI Monitoring, and Terraform/CloudFormation); direct experience with technologies such as VMware Cloud Foundation, Dell PowerEdge servers, IBM Power Systems and AIX, IBM Spectrum Protect Suite, IBM SAN Volume Controllers, NetApp FAS and IBM FlashSystem storage, F5 BIG-IP GTM/LTM, Red Hat Ansible Tower, Red Hat OpenShift, BMC Discovery, and Galileo Performance Explorer; experience from the infrastructure support perspective with CI/CD and engineering toolchains (e.g., GitLab Ultimate, SonarQube, Active Risk Manager, Jama, Pyramid, Cameo); strong background in automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and configuration management in hybrid environments; ITIL certification and/or formal training in service management, incident, change, and problem management; and Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure certifications).

The likely salary range for this position is $165,750 - $224,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
