Job Title: RN, Nurse Lead Profession: Nursing Specialty: Nursing Leadership Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 5 years of technical experience preferred License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, FHM required Must-Have: - Bachelors Degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and related experience required - Supervisory experience or demonstrated supervisory skills required Description: Provides unit-based leadership working collaboratively with the Nurse Manager, Director, Physicians, and staff. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel. Ensures that all patients receive cost-effective, professional care that results in positive outcomes and high patient satisfaction. Maintains the highest level of patient safety. Assesses and takes steps to improve the quality of the patient experience. Provides leadership in the development and provision of clinical services. Supervises and directs unit personnel. Initiates and coordinates individual and team conferences with health team members, patients, and families to revise care plans for optimal patient care. Directs and monitors personnel in the performance of patient care activities to ensure adequate patient care and quality of work. Participates in patient care as needed. Fosters an environment of patient and family-centered care with attention to cultural diversity and personal needs. Makes rounds to have an overview of patient care needs and to introduce self to patients and families. Solicits feedback on the quality of nursing services and any concerns. Provides interventions or develops systems to address the care of patients throughout the continuum of care. Develops strategies with leadership to improve customer satisfaction for patients, families, and physicians. Investigates and resolves patient care and operational issues as needed. Recommends policy or procedure changes based upon standards, in collaboration with leadership. Ensures compliance with Patient Safety Goals identified by regulatory bodies and hospital policy through unit management and participation in Performance Improvement Teams. Works closely with clinical team members to implement systems or staff development activities to meet patient, family, and physician needs. Provides ongoing assessment of department operations and patient care processes for opportunities to improve. Facilitates data collection by staff members and participates in unit quality activities to improve care. Assesses staffing requirements on an ongoing basis. Manages assigned personnel based on patient acuity, needs, and available skills. Assigns staff to particular patients and patient care activities according to an assessment of effective utilization of skills, patient needs, and to equalize workload. Arranges for staff relief for meals and breaks. Reviews and takes action on requests to adjust schedules. Plays a significant role in the evaluation of unit employees' performance. Coaches and disciplines personnel when appropriate. Involved in decisions to hire and terminate unit personnel. Instructs new personnel on job duties and assignments. Works to assure that the department and equipment are maintained in a safe and operational state. Facilitates the repair of any malfunctioning equipment. Ensures the cleanliness of the department. Keeps leadership informed of unit activities, incidents, and special needs in a timely manner. Handles staffing costs within targeted budgets. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
