About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year required, 5 years preferred. License: Active nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Chemo Certification (OCN preferred) Must-Have: BMT or Stem Cell experience is a significant plus. First-time travelers with a robust background will be considered. Experience with Pyxis medication system and EPIC documentation is required. Description: This role is for an ICU Registered Nurse involved in a start-up program. Candidates will be expected to share their expertise and assist existing nurses in learning. Work hours include three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Floating to Intermediate Care Units may be required based on background. Every other weekend work is required, with potential for less frequent weekends based on staffing needs. Interdisciplinary support will include pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, transportation, and a unit secretary. Provider coverage will be provided by intensivists, CRNAs, and hospitalists during the day, with 24-hour on-call coverage. Certifications such as BLS, ACLS, and chemotherapy certifications are essential. Candidates should have proficient skills in the administration and management of chemotherapy, BMT procedures, and monitoring abnormal lab values. Experience related to recognizing and managing side effects, along with patient education and support, is also required. Additional skills that would be beneficial include both inpatient and outpatient oncology experience, as well as advanced patient care techniques. Candidates must be adept in handling administration of various medications including chemotherapy, blood products, and manage complications such as anaphylaxis and hemorrhage. A thorough understanding of safety protocols and caring for patients with various types of cancer will be beneficial. The initial volume of patients will be low, providing an opportunity to shape and develop the nursing practices in the unit. All clinical staff must comply with required vaccination policies.
