Position: Peer Support Specialist I Job Type: Full-Time / Non-Exempt Shift Details: Rotating schedule (every other weekend off) - Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM Work Location: Crisis - Franklin County Crisis Care Center, Columbus, Ohio Salary/Hourly Wage: $19.00 per hour Specialties / Licenses or Certifications: Valid Peer Support Certification Paid Peer Training available Summary of Job: The Peer Support Specialist I provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. The position also assists in implementing and creating a recovery environment and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Guest Care & Advocacy: Provides peer support to engage individuals in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking. Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools. Models hope, personal responsibility, and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained. Assists in developing natural supports and community living. Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose). Compliance & Risk Management: Completes clinical documentation as required. Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations and laws and all Recovery Innovations policies and procedures as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. Understands and adheres to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies. Cross Functional Collaboration: Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals. Job Requirements Education / Licenses: Successful completion of Peer Employment Training and certification as a Peer Support Specialist. High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services. Skills: Basic computer skills. Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools. Effective communication skills. Must pass de-escalation training as defined by state requirements. Driving Requirements: If driving is required, must meet all requirements outlined in Recovery Innovations driving policy. If not qualified to drive, a Non-Driver Attestation form must be signed. Miscellaneous Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless residing in a state where regulations set a different minimum age. Travel required based on business need. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA) and professionalism. Second-Chance Employer: Must pass a seven-year background check. Must pass substance abuse testing and/or tuberculosis testing if applicable. Must obtain designated fingerprinting clearance in applicable states. Must pass education verification check. For driving, must pass a three-year motor vehicle report and meet minimum eligibility criteria of insurance carrier. State-Specific Requirements Arizona – Must be 21 years or older. Louisiana – Must be 24 years or older. Ohio – Proof of Active Peer Support Certification is required. Washington – Additional specified state registration for Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC). Physical Demands Work may include close visual focus and substantial wrist, hand, and finger movements. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination, use of corrected vision, color vision, use of auditory senses. Lifting up to 20 pounds may be required. Work Environment Work may be in an office environment or behavioral health facility and may involve contact with individuals who are agitated or confused.
