Director Quality

Overview Primary leader responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day activities and coordinating services for WVU Medicine Hospitals. Directs the overall operation of departments and clinical areas such as Quality, Infection Control, Regulatory, Patient and Employee Safety, Risk Management, and Compliance and Privacy. Provides organizational leadership for performance improvement, fosters collaboration across departments, and leads continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Direct overall operations of Quality, Patient and Employee Safety, Infection Control, Regulatory, Policy Management, Risk Management, and Compliance and Privacy departments. Participate in operational planning; develop goals and objectives for accountable areas; influence nursing practice standards. Review safety and quality outcomes; apply continuous improvement process to patient care delivery. Prepare, control, and monitor budgets; discuss variances with executive leadership. Recruit and develop staff; maintain employee relations and motivation standards. Collaborate with governing bodies, medical staff, and clinical leaders on decision‑making. Provide recommendations for annual operating and capital budgets. Lead risk management activities; ensure policy renewals and reporting to carriers. Interpret and implement Hospital policies and procedures; ensure accreditation and regulatory compliance. Present evidence‑based indicators to measure and improve quality patient outcomes. Manage operational and business activities of the entity in collaboration with administration. Identify improvement priorities; partner with leaders to deliver process improvements. Implement clinical and regulatory processes related to patient flow and budgets. Maintain relevant reports, data, and education to support quality improvement and reporting needs (national benchmarks, accreditation, payer requirements, etc.). Support sentinel event investigations, safety concerns, and trend analysis. Assist in the development and implementation of evidence‑based medicine practice guidelines. Maintain knowledge of regulatory changes and ensure compliance with licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. Coordinate with the Emergency Management Director to develop and execute Emergency Operations Plans and training. Represent the hospital at external meetings at local, regional and state levels. Report to the Board of Directors and administration on program status and risk assessments. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in nursing, business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field. Five (5) years’ experience in hospital operations focused on quality improvement. Three (3) years’ experience in leadership roles. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field. Current licensure or temporary licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse. Ten (10) years’ experience in hospital operations, including at least five (5) years in Administrative Management. Experience applying Lean Management approaches to process improvement. Physical Requirements Full body range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and hand‑eye coordination. Requires sitting for long periods of time. Exposure to patient elements including communicable diseases and body fluids. Requires corrective vision and hearing within normal range. Working Environment Exposure to toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other clinical environment conditions. Skills and Abilities Knowledge of financial mechanisms of expense and revenue. Knowledge of current leadership, management, and performance improvement concepts. Ability to investigate complaints, incidents, and accidents involving patients and staff. Decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities. Computer literacy and word processing proficiency. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
