Registered Nurse (RN) - First Assistant - Cardio Vascular Surgery

This job assists the surgeon in performing surgery with optimal results for the patient, operating under the direct supervision of the surgeon as either a circulator or scrub role. The role involves using the Nursing Process to provide patient care and directing and assisting licensed and ancillary team members. It requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and coordination of the delivery of the patient care plan. Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Work Experience Required: 5 years operating room experience. Certifications Required: Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Preferred: Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR). Successful completion of an RNFA program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon. Ability to adapt to change in a positive and constructive manner. Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability). Ability to travel throughout and between facilities. Job Duties Performs direct and indirect patient care duties. Exhibits competencies in the care of and services provided to patients/customers in specific relation to their age and developmental stage with supervision of the staff nurse. Communicates with surgeon on any special needs. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy, introduction methods, and communication style. Performs other related duties as required. Physical and Environmental Demands The physical demands include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects; these requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. The role involves routine exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and potential communicable diseases, as well as possible exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
