PATH 3.0 - Screening Field Interviewer

Position Overview Westat is currently seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals with a commitment to excellence to serve as screening field interviewers for the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) study. The PATH study collects information on tobacco and nicotine use and examines its short‑ and long‑term health effects on people in the U.S. Interested applicants are required to view the PATH interviewer video to learn more about this position prior to submitting an application. To view the video, visit the following URL: Key Responsibilities Locate sampled addresses and screen household members for the longitudinal study. Collect web‑based and in‑person data, ensuring accurate and timely transcription. Transmit data via the internet and report progress and costs to the assigned supervisor. Basic Qualifications Be 18 or older (or an emancipated minor) and able to enter binding confidentiality agreements. Be available to complete 20–25 hours of web‑based training per week between August 3, 2026, and August 16, 2026, and communicate with the supervisor multiple times per week during this period. Minimum Requirements Live in or near the geographic work area defined by the project sample. Be available to work during the data collection period from August 17 through December 31, 2026. Work 20–25 hours per week, mainly evenings and weekends, in 3‑to‑4‑hour sessions; additional hours may be available. Travel locally to complete project work. Meet the physical requirements: Lift and carry 20 pounds of equipment. Walk several blocks and climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment. Maintain reliable access to a telephone with long‑distance calling (landline or cellular) and a secure high‑speed internet connection. Possess a fully insured, reliable vehicle that meets Westat’s insurance coverage requirements. Hold a current and valid driver’s license that is not under suspension. Preferred Criteria Experience with in‑person interviewing and/or cold calling. Experience working with the public and communicating effectively with diverse populations. Comfortable using a laptop computer and establishing rapport with study respondents. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with limited supervision. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is encouraged. Willingness to travel overnight if project assignments become available. Benefits and Compensation This is a part‑time, variable‑hour, non‑exempt position. The hourly rate ranges from $20.62 to $24.12, varying by location. In addition to hourly pay, a health and welfare payment of $5.09 will be paid weekly for up to 40 work hours. The position is eligible for overtime pay, paid vacation and holiday leave based on hours worked, sick leave, and participation in the 401(k) program. Health insurance and a health savings account are available after 1,560 hours worked during the period from September to September of the following year. Production bonuses and paid vacation are at client discretion.
