SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - GENERAL LEDGER

Sr. Accountant – GLThe purpose of this position is to maintain and prepare complex financial records. Perform complex, technical work involving the preparation and maintenance of fiscal and/or statistical records and completes related work as required. The Sr. Accountant – GL works under limited supervision and reports major activities through periodic meetings. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate accounting personnel. Reports to the Finance Director.Essential Functions:Verifies and reconciles financial data to assure accuracy and completeness of informationWeekly recording and reconciling financial transactions within the general ledgerAssist the Finance Director with preparation of the budget and departmental budget requests and development of the Annual budget manualBudget monitoring by department – transfers and journal entriesManaging accounts payable and accounts receivable entriesPreparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reportsEnsure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal controlsSupporting internal and external audits and financial reviewsCompleting year-end closing processes for the Town of Dumfries, to include performing FMS closeoutsMaintains ledgers, reports and other financial documentation; review for technical defects and errors including, but not limited to, quarterly financial reports and payroll reportsThe Town of Dumfries offers a full range of employee benefits, including enrollment in healthcare and retirement plans.
