Title: CDL Driver

Hourly Rate: $23 - $26

Location:  Morning shuttle pick up in Monterey Park or Commerce, CA

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5:45 - 6AM Start Time (Open to occasional OT) 

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for providing fixed route coverage for the Transportation Department. This position will also provide coverage for all specialty appointments during the fixed routes downtime. This includes all special assistance needed by all clients requiring transportation services to/from home to senior care facilities as well as to/from specialty appointments. In addition, is responsible for complying with all DOT regulations.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Transport and give special assistance to all participants requiring transportation service as required by senior care program.
2. Assists each passenger to assure safe entry and seating, including pick-up at when authorized by management; curb to curb service; fastening of safety belts on both ambulatory and wheelchair passengers. Provide standby assistance for all passengers coded as stand-by, or at risk of falls, soon as determined by the program.
3. Provide additional assistance to clients requiring special attention due to their physical and/or cognitive disabilities (i.e. hard of hearing, visually impaired, dementia, etc.).
4. Ensure proper use of wheelchair tie downs; demonstrate proper usage of body mechanics for wheelchair transfers.
5. Executes defensive driving, showing good judgment and extending road courtesy to others.
6. Maintaining all required logs (daily trip sheets, CHP inspection forms) and daily submittal of all medication delivery slips, not at home notices, etc.,
7. Performing complete morning and evening vehicle inspections and documentation as required by CHP; this includes reporting all safety hazards and utilizing a back-up vehicle as assigned.
8. Be responsible for maintaining, supporting and promoting a safe work environment while complying with all DOT safety rules, polices, and procedures.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. A current State of California Class B driver’s license (with P endorsement for multiple passengers) and a clean driving record within the past 3-years are required.
2. Minimum two years driving experience required and experience working with geriatric and/or frail elderly population preferred.
3. Ability to obtain a LA DOT city permit.
4. Current First Aid/CPR required.

5. HS Diploma or GED

Skills and Abilities: 

1. Ability to work professionally with other staff and the general public.
2. Ability to adapt to multiple fixed route assignments and demonstrate flexibility with daily work assignments during route downtime.
3. Ability to follow daily assignments and communicate any issues/concerns with Dispatch and/or Management.
4. Ability to complete daily work assignments in a professional, timely and responsible manner.
5. Maintain confidentiality, including the protection of all equipment and documents (regarding company or client matters) from loss and /or theft.
6. Demonstrate basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure), reading, writing skills and have basic computer
skills.
7. Skilled in basic navigating via map (Thomas Guide) or other GPS devices.
8. Demonstrate and maintain a clean driving DMV record and maintain required certifications.
9. Strong knowledge and experience with handling wheelchair bound participants and appropriate transfer techniques.
10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively

Physical Requirements:

1. Walking, talking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, stretching and stooping, and exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and 25 to 50 pounds
of force frequently.
2. Will require physically assisting patients in transferring from one place to another, including securing all wheelchair-bound patients, within the
transportation vehicle.
3. Will also need to appropriately secure all additional Durable Medical Equipment that a participant need for safe ambulation.
4. Ability to communicate effectively via walkie-talkie/cell phone.

Environmental Conditions:
1. Will be subject to all types of freeway (road) and seasonal weather conditions (cold and hot climates) while transporting patients.
