Radiology Technologist

The Radiology Technologist is responsible for operating X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment under the direction of the Medical Director/Physician. Responsibilities Assures that all materials and other required equipment are present and in working order Selects proper ionizing factors for radiologic diagnosis Positions patient and adjusts equipment to obtain the best quality X‑ray of the specific body area requested by the physician Adjusts and sets radiographic controls, such as kilovoltage and milliamperage, to prescribed specifications for proper timing of exposure Sets up and operates radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients Protects patient and other personnel from radiation hazards, taking preventative steps to minimize radiation exposure Regulates the length and intensity of film exposure Implements infection control procedures for the work area Conducts X‑ray, checks clarity of image, and retakes X‑rays when needed Distributes films to appropriate medical staff and transfers images to electronic medical records (EMR) Maintains quantity and quality control checks to assure the X‑ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and facility policy Performs radiographic procedures for patients in surgery Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining repairs needed Maintains radiographic supplies, film, and equipment Follows all safety rules, corrects minor safety hazards, reports all accidents promptly, and communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy, procedure, and HIPAA requirements Adheres to the company standards of business conduct Performs other duties as assigned at the discretion of the medical provider and facility Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of human anatomy Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures Knowledge of basic chemistry, film apparatus, and film processing techniques Knowledge of how disease and injuries are diagnosed and imaged radiographically Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications Strong attention to detail, being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks Ability to set up and operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X‑ray procedure required Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment Ability to comply with facility policies and procedures and continue mandatory education programs Self‑control to maintain composure, keep emotions in check, control anger, and avoid aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes Ability to maintain a calm and helpful attitude, even under times of stress, and take appropriate and reasonable steps to resolve issues Ability to perform high‑quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner Ability to adapt with flexibility, being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace Ability to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending on one’s own initiative to get things done Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow Ability to maintain accurate patient records Ability to communicate effectively Ability to work with flexible scheduling and to take call if required Must have reliable transportation for traveling if necessary Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or Associate’s Degree in Radiology Studies Licensed by the Medical State Board of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) One (1) year of radiology experience in a healthcare facility Compensation to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
