Maintenance Worker I/IIThe City of Murrieta is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I/II to fill one (1) current vacancy in our Municipal Services Department- Parks. The eligibility list established may be used to fill upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to one (1) year. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the City's beautiful parks, trails, and recreational facilities to ensure they remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all community members. As part of a collaborative and service-driven team, the Parks Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of tasks including facility upkeep, equipment maintenance and minor repairs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work and is committed to enhancing the quality of life for Murrieta residents through the care of our public spaces.Work Schedule: This position is currently assigned a regular 9/80 work schedule; however, the schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.Under immediate (I) to general supervision (II), performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure, including streets, storm drains, traffic signs and rights-of-way, City parks and open spaces, and building facilities; uses and operates a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment; and performs related works as required.Receives immediate (Maintenance Worker I) to general (Maintenance Worker II) supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.Maintenance Worker I - This is the entry-level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine maintenance to City infrastructure, systems, grounds, parks, and facilities. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Maintenance Worker II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.Maintenance Worker II - This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performs the more complex work assigned to the series and provides technical and functional direction over lower level staff. Positions in the Maintenance Worker I/II class series are flexibly staffed; positions at the Maintenance Worker II level are normally filled by advancement from the Maintenance Worker I level; progression to the Maintenance Worker II level is dependent on (i) management affirmation that the position is performing the full range of duties assigned to the classification; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any licenses and certifications; and (iv) management approval for progression to the Maintenance Worker II level.Management reserves the right to add, modify, or remove job duties as necessary and will make reasonable accommodations consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) to enable qualified individuals to perform the position's essential functions. The omission of a specific duty does not preclude it from being assigned if it is similar, related, or logically aligned with the role's overall responsibilities.When assigned to any Division:Inspects assigned City area for safety issues and possible future work projects, and appropriately marks areas that need to be repairedOperates and maintains specialized vehicles and a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of parks and grounds, streets, or facilitiesOperates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to work assignment as instructedObserves safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as requiredMaintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workdayInspects City premises for graffiti vandalism, uses appropriate chemicals and high-pressure equipment to remove graffitiInstalls street barricades and cones and controls traffic around work sites, street closures, and special events to ensure safe conditions for the general public and City staffInteracts with and provides information for the public and City staffMaintains accurate logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment usedAttends training, meetings, and workshops as required to enhance job knowledge and skillsEstimates quantities needed and recommends selection of materials, replacements, etc. for respective areasCoordinates assigned services and activities with those of other divisions and outside agenciesResponds to emergency situations as requiredEnsures staff compliance with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocolsMay be temporarily assigned, on a daily basis, to other Maintenance Divisions including Public Works, Parks, and FacilitiesPerforms other duties as assignedWhen assigned to the Parks Division:Performs tree trimming and removal services, including pruning branches, grinding tree stumps to ground level, and removing trees safely and efficientlyInspects, maintains, removes, and installs playground equipment, picnic tables, and related parks equipment and facilities; paints park buildings and other facilitiesRakes leaves and clears debris from walkways, fields, and other facilitiesOpens parks and restrooms daily; picks up trash and empties barrelsCleans and maintains restrooms; stocks restrooms with necessary supplies; repairs toilets, urinals, and faucets as neededProvides support to City events; gathers supplies; maintains and refurbishes event equipment; drives trucks and vehicles and pulls trailersRemoves debris from parks; maintains landscape areas throughout the CityMinimum QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications includes:Maintenance Worker I/II - High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).Maintenance Worker I - One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, streets and roadways, storm water and drainage systems, traffic signs, facilities maintenance and/or related systems.Maintenance Worker II - Three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, streets and roadways, storm water and drainage systems, traffic signs, facilities maintenance and/or related systems or two (2) years of experience equivalent to Maintenance Worker I with the City of Murrieta.Driving is an essential job function; therefore, a valid California Driver's License is required.Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class B Driver's License.Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate "B" or "C" issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.Possession of, or ability to obtain, Confined Space Entry certification.Possession of a Playground Safety Instructor Certificate issued by a nationally recognized organization such as the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) or International Playground Safety Institute (IPSI) is desirable.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Disaster Service Workers In accordance with Government Code 3100, this position is declared to be a disaster service worker subject to such disaster service activities as may be assigned to them by their superiors or by law.Tier 1 – Basic Pre-Employment Requirements Final candidates must successfully complete a basic pre-employment screening process, which includes a Department of Justice Live Scan (DOJ/LS) background check and a non-safety pre-employment physical examination to ensure the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Physical Demands and Environmental ConditionsKNOWLEDGE OFPrinciples, practices, and methods of maintenance and repair of a variety of City infrastructure, equipment, facilities, and/or grounds.Traffic control procedures and traffic sign regulationsThe operation and maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles,
