Pediatric Gastroenterologist/Transplant Hepatologist (Salt Lake City)

Overview

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist with advanced training and/or experience in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology. The successful candidate will be part of a clinical team in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics. Clinical responsibilities include providing outpatient and inpatient care, focusing primarily on transplant hepatology and liver disease, as well as general pediatric gastroenterology and clinical outreach activities at satellite clinics. Opportunities for academic work, including education, collaborative clinical research, administration and advocacy, are also available.

Clinical Activities

Clinical work is carried out at Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH), a 289-bed children’s hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, and at the second PCH campus opened in Lehi, Utah in 2024. The Pediatric Liver Care Center serves a large geographic catchment area, with diverse patients from Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming and New Mexico. The liver transplant program has performed over 300 transplants, with more than 30 in the last two years. The program includes three pediatric transplant and hepatobiliary surgeons and four providers with Pediatric Transplant Hepatology Certificates of Added Qualification. The Division also offers advanced endoscopy and is one of the few centers in the country with a pediatric ERCP program.

Academic and Research Opportunities

Academic interests can be tailored to the candidate’s goals, including clinical trials, leadership of transplant hepatology fellowship or transplant programs, multidisciplinary pediatric cystic fibrosis clinics, fatty liver disease clinics or leading the NICU consult service. Research opportunities include participation in the NIH-funded Childhood Liver Disease Research Network, the SPLIT registry, the Starzl Network, the Children’s Oncology Group, the Pediatric PSC Consortium and other multi‑center studies. The University of Utah is a hub for the Utah Clinical & Translational Science Institute, Huntsman Cancer Institute and Utah Center for Genetic Discovery.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of advanced training in pediatric transplant hepatology, or equivalent experience.
• Completed a Pediatrics Residency and a Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship.
• Board Certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
• Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology.

The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track at the academic level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
