Family Nurse Practitioner - Outpatient & Urgent Care

The Mescalero Apache Tribe, consisting of three sub-tribes, Mescalero, Lipan, and Chiricahua, resides on a 463,000-acre reservation that was once the heartland of their aboriginal homelands. The Mescalero Service Unit Indian Health Service operates a 13-bed Mescalero Indian Hospital providing both inpatient and outpatient services, supplemented by field health programs. The hospital's outpatient department includes several specialty clinics, and support services are provided by on-site laboratory and radiology departments.

Responsibilities include providing diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic health services to eligible patients and family members. This involves securing health and development histories, recording findings, making critical evaluations, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, making decisions concerning medical care needs, providing direct medical care, adjusting treatment within established standing orders, working collaboratively with physicians, consulting with clinic physician consultants or on-call hospitalists, participating in health care and services, providing emergency or crisis intervention, providing medical care and preventive services to healthy individuals, evaluating total health care needs, complying with infection control and safety procedures, meeting Joint Commission and CMS standards, and respecting the basic rights of patients.

Requirements include holding an active, current, and unrestricted state nurse practitioner license, having a certification from either the American Association of Nurse Practitioner or the American Nurse Credentialing Center, having thirty-six months of nurse practitioner experience with a minimum of twelve months in the required specialty, and holding current Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications.
