CTE FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES (FOODS & NUTRITION) TEACHER
HIGH SCHOOL

Position Classification: Licensed Teacher - Career and Technical Education (Family and Consumer Sciences)

Term of Employment: 10 Months

FLSA Status: Exempt

Purpose of Position


Provide high-quality instruction aligned with the North Carolina CTE Essential Standards and Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum while preparing students for college, career, and community success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Holds or is eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator License in Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, nutrition, food safety, sanitation, and culinary arts.
    • Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned to NC CTE Essential Standards.
    • Teach Foods and Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and related courses.
    • Maintain a safe and sanitary food laboratory environment.
    • Supervise students during food preparation and laboratory activities.
    • Maintain inventory, equipment, and instructional supplies.
    • Assess and monitor student progress and maintain accurate records.
    • Support FCCLA and other CTE student leadership activities.
    • Coordinate industry credentials and work-based learning opportunities.
    • Collaborate with families, staff, business partners, and community stakeholders.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.
    • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
    • Ability to manage a laboratory classroom environment.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to integrate instructional technology into classroom instruction.
Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
    • Ability to demonstrate culinary techniques and safely operate kitchen equipment.
    • Ability to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
