Assistant Nurse Manager

Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to support the Nurse Manager to ensure standards of professional practice are developed and maintained to achieve excellence and continuity in resident care. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be responsible for working in a collaborative manner with the Nurse Manager to direct and organize the nursing care for their assigned neighborhoods. The Assistant Nurse Manager will support the leadership, direction, and supervision of nursing staff, including RNs/LPNs, CNAs and Companions. This includes working in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and the neighborhood staff to balance schedules and maintain staffing levels that are consistent with resident needs, including needs as defined by their Plan of Care, activity and daily schedules, outside and in-house clinic visits, and school programs. The Assistant Nurse Manager will also review and/or modify staff assignments as necessary to ensure quality resident care. In addition, the Assistant Nurse Manager will participate in the hiring, interviewing and onboarding process, as well as periodic evaluation of staff that are assigned to their floor. Evaluations include annual performance reviews as well as interim coaching, counseling and progressive disciplines that may be required. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be responsible for working an on-site schedule of at least 4 days per week a that includes providing evening supervisory coverage and reporting off daily concerns and significant changes in resident condition to the night supervisors. The Assistant Nurse Manager will be included in a Nursing Leadership weekend rotation to ensure continuity of systems and protocols are maintained through the entire week. The Assistant Nurse Manager will demonstrate a commitment to the continuum of care for our residents, through participating in and promoting nursing practice while in the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center and through follow up with collaborating hospitals in the case of transfers for escalations in care. Consistent with our Mission and the philosophy of child/family centered care, the Assistant Nursing Manager will participate in the QAPI process to identify opportunities for system improvements and will establish collegial interdisciplinary relationships in order to foster communication and growth between nursing and other departments The Assistant Nurse Manager will function as an advocate for residents and their families through a culturally competent, trauma informed approach that will include escalating and participating in the family grievance process, attending clinical status meetings daily, communicating concerns to the interdisciplinary team, and ensuring families are kept updated with clinical concerns and changes that are reported through the incident reporting process.

Works in collaboration with Materials Management to maintain adequate supplies on the neighborhood(s), and coordinates with neighborhood staff to ensure restocking of rooms. In coordination with the Nurse Manager, ensures staff conduct themselves professionally, courteously and with a customer service mindset that emphasizes high quality resident care. Acts as superusers for clinical systems, including but not limited to SigmaCare, Capsule and Radar. Is knowledgeable of and enforces regulatory compliance, including infection control policies and procedures. Collaborates with clinical educators to ensure all required educational opportunities for staff are attended and that mandatory clinical skills competency requirements are completed. Collaborates with preceptors and clinical educators to ensure new hires are provided an appropriate and thorough orientation experience that prepares them for working independently on their neighborhoods. Support all nursing staff, serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff , addressing complex patient care issues. Participates in and promotes Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities including neighborhood-based quality council meetings, safety huddles, occurrence reporting, QAPI Performance Improvement Projects (PIPs), and evidence-based practice. In coordination with the Nurse Manager addresses and resolves patient and family concerns, escalating issues when appropriate. Participate in schedule neighborhood meetings. Assure that information is disseminated to all appropriate parties timely. Activity participate in the interviewing and selection process for new team members with the Nurse Manager. Collaborate with Nurse Manager, supervise and support nursing staff, including performance evaluations, coaching and counseling. Supports the Nurse Manager by assuming administrative responsibilities as delegated, and helping to maintain daily neighborhood workflows. Supports the development and execution of emergency preparedness plans as needed. Qualifications Education Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or related field. Master of Science nursing degree (preferred) New York State Nursing License.

BCLS/PALS

Experience Atleast three years clinical nurse experience. A minimum of two (2) year supervisory experience. Employee Requirements: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently. Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds. Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary. Working Conditions: Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area. Will be subject to frequent interruptions. May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. Salary Range: $130,000/Yr.
