The role
Please read the following job description thoroughly to ensure you are the right fit for this role before applying.
Crafting beautiful books is at the heart of everything that Reedsy does. We're changing the way books are published by giving independent authors and access to talented professionals, powerful tools, and free educational content.
We are currently looking for a diverse range of designers and illustrators to join our vetted community of freelance professionals. We welcome experts in any of the following:
- Cover design
- Book interior design
- Typography
- Illustration
- Production management
As a designer on Reedsy, you will work directly with authors and be able to decide your rates, availability, and which projects to take on. You will be expected to understand your clients' needs, advise them based on your knowledge of design trends in their genre, and design their book to the highest standards.
Please refer to these cover designs made by Reedsy professionals for reference on the style and quality we are looking for: At least 3 years of professional design experience.
- A strong portfolio for the services you are applying for. Designs for books should be prioritised, and examples of comparable designs or illustrations (e.g. magazines or posters) might be considered if relevant.
- Knowledge of the publishing industry and design trends.
"Reedsy offers a curated, professional space to do fulfilling work — without the noise and uncertainty of traditional freelance job boards. I've grown my portfolio, connected with amazing authors, and taken on projects that reflect the kind of work I want to be doing."
—Sisi K., designer on Reedsy
