Materials Control Manager

Annual bonus: 15% LTI (Long Term Incentive): $26,000 Job Summary The Materials Control Manager is responsible for organizing, directing, and optimizing all Materials Control activities at the Canaan manufacturing plant. This role oversees purchasing, production planning and control, inventory management, expediting, and supplier management across multiple product lines. The position partners closely with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Finance to ensure material availability, production continuity, inventory accuracy, and compliance with BD quality and regulatory requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead and supervise all personnel within the Materials Department, including Procurement, Production Planning, SAP, Flexographic Printing, and Parts Crib functions. Establish, maintain, and improve production control systems, schedules, and reporting processes. Oversee purchasing of raw materials, components, MRO supplies, and capital equipment to support production schedules and plant operations. Ensure timely issuance of purchase orders, changes, and lead-time management to support manufacturing demand. Develop and implement procedures, workflows, and best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and department performance. Review master production schedules driven by Supply Chain Management to ensure alignment with plant capacity, labor, and material availability. Validate demand signals and recommend schedule adjustments to optimize equipment utilization, staffing, material flow, and service levels. Provide accurate and timely reporting to Accounting and Management related to budgets, forecasts, production status, inventory, and backorders. Partner with Quality Assurance to support the timely disposition of nonconforming materials. Identify, evaluate, and recommend new suppliers to support quality improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and supply continuity. Manage raw material inventory to balance production requirements while minimizing working capital investment. Maintain and update all Materials Control documentation to ensure compliance with ISO, QSR, and SOX requirements. Establish department goals, KPIs, and continuous improvement strategies aligned to plant and BD objectives. Lead workforce planning for exempt and non-exempt employees, including employee development, training, performance management, and counseling. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in Materials Management, Supply Chain, or Manufacturing Operations. Demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional or multi-disciplinary teams. Strong experience with production planning, inventory control, purchasing, and supplier management in a regulated manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred). Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to lead process improvements and manage change effectively. Preferred Qualifications Experience in medical devices or regulated manufacturing environments. Lean, Six Sigma, or APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP) preferred. Experience supporting multi-product, high-mix manufacturing operations. Dimensional Thinking
