Procurement Engineer I - Nuclear

Support a commercial nuclear generating station by ensuring replacement parts and equipment meet plant design, quality, fit-form-function, and regulatory requirements. This engineer will protect work-control schedules through technical evaluations, commercial-grade dedication, procurement specifications, equipment qualification, and resolution of procurement issues.

The strongest candidate is a procurement or component engineer with direct commercial nuclear experience, a strong grasp of safety-related parts and quality classifications, and the ability to independently evaluate substitutions and digital electrical components.

Location: Richland, Washington

Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week

Work Setting: Onsite preferred; remote candidates may be considered by the hiring manager

Pay Rate: $50.25-$73.50 per hour, depending on experience level and client approval

Benefits

Washington employees accrue paid sick leave at a minimum of one hour for every 40 hours worked, equivalent to approximately 52 hours or 6.5 eight-hour days in a 2,080-hour work year.

Eligible non-local contractors living more than 100 miles from the Richland plant may receive a flat $216 per day in non-taxed per diem, seven days per week during the first 12 months - up to $78,840. Mobilization and demobilization assistance may also be available for eligible contractors living more than 500 miles from the plant.

Responsibilities

• Prepare technical and quality evaluations for replacement equipment, parts, and plant components.
• Verify fit, form, function, design-basis alignment, and availability of spare parts needed to protect the work-control schedule.
• Evaluate equivalent replacements and substitutions, document technical conclusions, and maintain design-basis data.
• Develop commercial-grade dedication plans, critical characteristics, acceptance methods, and supporting technical documentation.
• Prepare procurement specifications and define applicable engineering, quality, testing, inspection, and documentation requirements.
• Perform or support equipment qualification analyses, including evaluations involving digital electrical components.
• Classify equipment and parts in accordance with plant quality and regulatory requirements.
• Resolve technical and quality-affecting procurement problems with engineering, supply chain, maintenance, operations, and quality personnel.
• Identify design, quality, or operational concerns and initiate corrective action through the plant condition-report process.
• Apply codes, standards, regulatory commitments, and station procedures while working with minimal supervision.
• Provide technical direction, mentoring, and training when assignments require senior-level judgment.
• Support audits, inspections, tests, assessments, and engineering problem resolution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university and at least eight years of engineering experience; or a high school diploma/GED, a PE license obtained by accredited examination, and at least eight years of engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience evaluating replacement parts, alternate items, or equipment for fit, form, function, and design requirements.
• Working knowledge of technical evaluations, procurement specifications, quality requirements, and configuration-controlled engineering records.
• Ability to analyze complex technical issues, document defensible conclusions, and work independently in a regulated environment.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial nuclear procurement engineering, component engineering, or procurement specialist experience.
• Commercial-grade dedication and safety-related procurement experience.
• Equipment qualification, quality classification, receipt inspection, or supplier-quality interface experience.
• Experience evaluating digital electrical or instrumentation-and-controls components.
• Experience with nuclear condition reports, corrective action, audits, and regulatory compliance.
