Quality Supervisor

Scope of Position

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing plant quality, food safety, and compliance programs to ensure products consistently meet regulatory, customer, and company standards. This role supervises Quality Technicians, verifies the effective execution of food safety and quality systems, maintains compliance documentation and records, and supports continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.

The Quality Supervisor serves as a key resource for plant operations by driving adherence to food safety requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation standards, and quality management systems while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise Quality Technicians and coordinate daily staffing, scheduling, and execution of quality-related activities.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to ensure team effectiveness and development.
  • Promote a culture of food safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the facility.
Food Safety & Quality Systems
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct verification activities, including internal audits, prerequisite program (PrP) audits, inspections, and periodic record reviews.
  • Monitor and verify the execution of quality assurance programs and food safety systems.
  • Support product hold and release activities, ensuring appropriate documentation and disposition decisions.
Corrective and Preventive Actions
  • Lead investigations related to quality non-conformances, food safety incidents, and process deviations.
  • Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Escalate significant quality or food safety concerns to plant leadership as required.
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Collect, analyze, and report key quality and food safety performance metrics.
  • Prepare reports for plant management, operations, corporate quality teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify trends and recommend process improvements based on quality data analysis.
Customer & Consumer Complaint Management
  • Investigate customer and consumer complaints to determine root causes.
  • Collaborate with operations and management teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to complaint investigations.
Product Testing & Compliance
  • Support product test lots and validation activities to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Verify testing programs are executed according to established procedures.
  • Maintain documentation necessary for regulatory, customer, and third-party audits.
Documentation & Training
  • Develop, revise, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Deliver training on food safety, quality systems, GMPs, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support onboarding and ongoing training initiatives for plant personnel.
Safety & Sanitation
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs, sanitation programs, and environmental monitoring requirements.
  • Identify, report, and address conditions that may negatively impact food safety, product quality, regulatory compliance, or employee safety.
Qualifications

Education
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related life science field preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes, GMPs, HACCP, food safety systems, quality assurance programs, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, auditing, and quality management systems.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory practices, statistical analysis, and quality data interpretation preferred.
