CAE HPC System Administrator - Hybrid Role

Salary: $80,000 - 104,000 per year Requirements:

• We require 7+ years of Linux system administration experience, preferably in RHEL environments.
• Candidates should have a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• We require hands-on experience managing HPC clusters and job schedulers such as LSF, Slurm, or PBS.
• Candidates should have experience supporting and integrating CAE applications in HPC environments, including tools such as Ansys, LS-DYNA, Nastran, or similar platforms.
• We require strong scripting skills in Bash, Shell, Perl, or similar technologies, along with experience in OS deployment, patch management, and system automation.
• Candidates should understand enterprise server hardware, storage, and networking.
• Preferred experience includes InfiniBand or other high-performance networking, FlexLM or RLM licensing systems, automated Linux provisioning, and configuration management.
• Experience developing internal tools, dashboards, or web-based utilities is a plus; PHP or similar web development knowledge is also beneficial.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship; sponsorship and visa transfer are unavailable.

• Administer, configure, and optimize HPC job scheduling environments, including IBM Spectrum LSF, OpenPBS, Slurm, or similar platforms; tune queues, resource allocation, and scheduling strategies.
• Monitor cluster utilization and performance, identify ways to improve throughput, and support reliable execution of CAE and engineering workloads.
• Install, upgrade, test, support, and integrate CAE applications with HPC scheduling environments.
• Manage FlexLM, RLM, or other software licensing platforms and troubleshoot application and licensing issues.
• Administer and maintain RHEL environments across HPC clusters, including OS provisioning, deployment, patching, and system maintenance.
• Support automated deployments using PXE or configuration management tools, and write scripts to automate monitoring and administrative tasks.
• Maintain system logs, monitoring processes, documentation, and operating procedures.
• Troubleshoot servers, storage, and high-performance network infrastructure, including InfiniBand and high-speed Ethernet.
• Support hardware installation, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle activities; plan capacity using utilization trends and anticipated workloads.
• Conduct system health checks, monitoring, and incident management; investigate outages, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
• Follow change management processes and maintain records of configurations, procedures, incidents, and best practices.
• Report on system utilization, incidents, capacity, and performance.

We are seeking a CAE HPC System Administrator for our Engineering division in Saline, Michigan. This is a 6–12 month, full-time contract with potential for long-term extension or conversion; one position is available. The role follows a hybrid schedule of three onsite days and two remote days each week, during standard business hours. Flexibility is needed for scheduled maintenance and critical production issues, and occasional after-hours or weekend support may be required. The position supports HPC environments used for CAE and engineering workloads, with a focus on keeping infrastructure stable, scalable, and efficient.
