Senior Bookkeeper

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our team. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete financial records for multiple companies while ensuring the integrity of day-to-day accounting operations. The Senior Bookkeeper prepares monthly financial reports, monitors budget variances, and oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger activity.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of managing multiple priorities, and committed to maintaining accuracy while meeting deadlines. This role also provides leadership and guidance to bookkeeping support staff and works closely with management and the company's CPA to ensure compliance with accounting standards and financial reporting requirements. Experience with Sage accounting software is preferred.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain accurate and complete financial records for multiple companies.
• Oversee daily bookkeeping functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, balance sheet accounts, and subsidiary ledgers.
• Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Monitor income and expenses and provide variance reporting as needed.
• Process and review payroll information and ensure payroll records are accurate.
• Prepare documentation and reports for the company's CPA, including tax-related information and year-end support.
• Maintain accounting records in compliance with company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Assist with annual budgets, financial forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
• Prepare surveys, census reports, and other required financial reporting for external agencies.
• Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Assist management with financial analysis and special projects.
• Manage and maintain accounting software and recommend process improvements when appropriate.
• Provide leadership, training, and support to staff.
• Respond to internal and external requests for financial information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, and/or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a multi-company environment.
• Experience with full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Experience preparing monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Budgeting and financial reporting experience.
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience with accounting software; Sage experience preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and support accounting team members.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive financial information.

Company Benefits

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: Salaried Position – $45,000–$60,000 per year , based on experience.
