Key Qualifications:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Experience working with school-aged children in educational settings
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration with students, staff, and families
• Ability to assess student needs and develop individualized plans
• Familiarity with a variety of adaptive mobility devices and technology
• Commitment to maintaining professional standards in documentation and confidentiality

Primary Responsibilities:

• Evaluate students' orientation and mobility skills to determine strengths and instructional needs
• Create and implement personalized instructional plans based on assessment findings
• Teach techniques to safely navigate school and community environments
• Provide direct instruction in areas such as cane travel and use of remaining sensory abilities
• Consult with instructional staff and parents to facilitate student participation in educational activities
• Monitor progress, adjust interventions as necessary, and prepare accurate reports
• Advocate for accessible environments and guide the school community in accommodating student needs
