Job Description The Optometric Technician creates exceptional value in the lives of patients by delivering outstanding patient service and ensuring all patients receive the highest quality of care. Enthusiastically satisfies patients throughout the experience. Responsibilities Greets guests promptly when they enter the store and demonstrates urgency in providing service. Determines the reason for the guest’s visit; explains how to shop at Target Optical in store or in the doctor’s office, outlining required paperwork, tests, products and services and their appropriate time frame. Reviews prescriptions and/or patient information carefully; identifies special needs and consults with Opticians, Doctors or Retail Management when necessary. Shows patience and courtesy to indecisive or difficult guests and patients. Performs work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and guest volume; resolves unsatisfied guests quickly. Demonstrates knowledge of appointment book/scheduling procedures and computer operation/procedures. Handles and files all patient records in an organized and efficient manner. Places contact lens orders, processes shipments and properly submits invoices for payment. Accurately operates the POS system, when required, collecting proper payment. Takes pride in the appearance of the store and initiates maintenance of clean, attractive and organized displays. Informs management of potential safety opportunities. Demonstrates safe work practices. Complies with all safety/regulatory requirements involving storage and use of supplies/chemicals. Performs all pre‑examination testing accurately and with attention to detail; explains measurements and answers patient questions. Utilizes clinical and product knowledge to coach and guide patients on the care and handling of contact lenses. Maintains and disinfects contact lens inventory; provides clinical support to the Optometrist as needed. Basic Qualifications Minimum of one year of strong guest service skills (internal or external). High School Graduate / GED or equivalent experience. Strong communicator and listener to guests and associates. Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Strong interpersonal skills (friendly, caring, patient). Sales skills. Knowledge of store merchandise. Familiarity with cash register, computers and calculators. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in guest service, retail or optical.
