It supplies reliable energy, renewables, and connectivity worldwide. Shift & Compensation 1st Shift – Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Hourly rate: $33+ per hour. Job Summary The Tool and Die Maker works under the direction of supervisors to machine parts for tools, including constructing and repairing dies, molds, gauges, jigs, and other fixtures. The role involves fabricating prototype parts, reading mechanical blueprints, performing trigonometric calculations, monitoring presses, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Essential Functions Apply heat treatment to ferrous materials via hardening and surface hardening. Design, construct, and troubleshoot dies, fixtures, tooling, and mechanical components. Use dimensional precision measurement and tolerancing techniques. Create and update AutoCAD drawings and Fusion models. Perform advanced shop math including geometry and trigonometry. Operate manual lathes, mills, drills, and grinders; program and operate CNC mills and lathes. Execute metal cutting and machine tool operations. Weld mild steel with wire feed or stick. Use computer programs such as AutoCAD, Fusion, email, labor reporting, safety, and training portals. Work over ten hours a week, including weekends and overtime when required. Safely operate and drive a forklift and other material handling equipment. Receive, inspect, clean, and stock raw materials. Communicate effectively in writing and speaking. Mentor less skilled Tool and Die employees and report to the GEMS team. Travel up to 1% domestically, including overnight stays. Important Details About the Role Review job instructions and prints for accuracy. Ensure the work area meets safety policies. Determine material requirements and optimal machining processes. Plan and sequence steps for material setup and hold. Consider machining effects on final dimensions. Program CNC machines based on CAD or prints. Maintain proper guarding to protect staff. Inspect work quality and maintain cleanliness. Update supervisors on progress and issues. Use CNC time efficiently to prepare for next steps. Document changes or errors and notify customers. Provide estimates of time and material for leads or supervisors. Deliver customer service and understand user needs. Required Qualifications Associate’s degree with 3+ years related experience or 7+ years related experience. Completion of Toolmaker and Machinist tests. 3+ years of blueprint reading and interpretation. Experience with heat treatments of ferrous material. Construction and troubleshooting of dies, fixtures, tooling. Proficiency in dimensional precision measurement using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and thread gauges. AutoCAD 2010 or newer. Advanced shop math including geometry and trigonometry. Manual machine operation and CNC programming. Welding mild steel with wire feed or stick. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently. Ability to stand 90% of the shift; bend, pivot or squat 10% of the shift. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and computer usage. Work over ten hours a week, overtime, weekends as needed. Teamwork, positive communication, and safety adherence. Participation in Safety and Lean programs. Operation of jib, monorail, and bridge cranes. Forklift operation and driving. Acceptable attendance, safety, and performance history. Intermediate proficiency in CNC milling and lathe. Preferred Qualifications Associate’s degree in a related field. Years of experience with CAD software. Years of welding experience. Experience operating a forklift in a professional setting. Educational Background Associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology or Tool and Die. English language proficiency. Legible penmanship. Understanding of all mechanical blueprints. Knowledge of metal cutting theory and machine operation. Familiarity with dimensional measurement and tolerancing. Computing skills for drafting and advanced shop math. Welding of mild steel with wire feed or stick. Microsoft Outlook proficiency for communication and time tracking. Training & Development Incumbents develop basic CNC programming and machine operation skills, learn die construction, and understand metal cutting and measurement fundamentals. On‑the‑job training typically takes one to two years. Decision Making Employees make routine decisions based on standard practices, quality control procedures, and common sense. They identify defects, report to supervisors, and plan machining operations with moderate supervision. Physical Effort Stand most of the shift; bend and squat ~10%. Move and lift fixtures up to 50 lbs, typically 25 lbs. Change tool bits and secure raw material weighing from 30 lbs to several thousand pounds using appropriate lifts. Perform fine motor tasks and operate manual and pneumatic tools. Working Conditions Work is performed indoors in a temperature‑controlled shop and occasionally in non‑air‑conditioned production areas. Exposure to metal fumes, dust, oils, and noise (80 dB) occurs. Protective gear is required. Fatigue may result from the fast pace, and cell phone use is limited to breaks.
