This area includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region caters to approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
POSITION SUMMARY:
In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. It is essential to communicate the patient's clinical status appropriately, responding swiftly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population. You will also promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job-Specific Competencies1. Conducts comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
2. Collaborates with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data for each surgical patient.
3. Adheres to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use based on patient age and clinical condition, while following safety policies.
4. Provides all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes, adhering to policies regarding patient identification and surgical procedures.
5. Accurately documents the nursing process and patient responses to care in a timely manner using the appropriate tools.
6. Exhibits flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively under stress, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
7. Engages in autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
8. Understands growth and development principles across the lifespan, interpreting patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care.
9. Provides accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
- Prepares the surgical room promptly with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each procedure.
- Maintains aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, identifying and addressing any breaches in technique with the surgical team.
- Communicates effectively with the surgeon regarding the accounting of sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting any discrepancies immediately and documenting all counts appropriately.
- Handles, labels, and processes specimens accurately.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the scrub role.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
- Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.
EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is essential.
