Job Description Department/Unit: Elective Orthopedics - B3W Work Shift: Evening (United States of America) Salary Range: $41,923.00 - $54,500.00 Responsibilities The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Collect patient data and perform point‑of‑care testing such as whole blood glucose. Assist with personal care, including bathing, oral care, skin care, grooming, dressing, and toileting. Turn, position, and mobilize patients and assist with eating, hydration, and ambulation. Assist with safe patient handling, range‑of‑motion exercises, and use of assistive and prosthetic devices. Promote the availability of resources for patient care through collaboration with Materiel Coordinators for use, stocking, and storage of supplies. Participate in maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment of care. Assist in the delivery of patient care provided by the caregiving team and assure competent, compassionate care is uniformly provided. Collect pertinent data including vital signs, height, weight, and food and fluid intake/output. Report abnormal findings to the Registered Nurse and the patient‑care team. Participate in care planning, nursing report process, and incorporate patient/family rights in decision making. Utilize standardized techniques to keep patients and families informed. Employ safe patient handling strategies and promote a clean, orderly environment. Demonstrate standard and transmission‑based precautions and infection control techniques. Document all care in the patient record and provide details related to patient progress toward goals and outcomes. May be asked to provide the service of activity companion for patients requiring observation. Qualifications & Requirements Training to perform technical procedures such as blood draw and electrocardiography. Knowledge of infection control and safe patient handling. Ability to work under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Strong communication skills for reporting and collaborating with the care team.
