A hospital-based surgical services department in Southern California is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join its operating room team. This opportunity is well suited for a skilled Surgical Technologist with strong operating room experience who is looking for a permanent, full-time position in a collaborative hospital environment.

Duties & Responsibilities\n

\n
• Prepare operating rooms for scheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
\n
• Verify availability and sterility of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
\n
• Assist with room setup according to the specific surgical procedure.
\n
• Maintain sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.
\n
• Perform surgical counts of instruments, sponges, needles, and other supplies.
\n
• Scrub in and assist surgeons and surgical team members during procedures.
\n
• Pass instruments, supplies, and equipment to surgeons as needed.
\n
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.
\n
• Assist with positioning and preparation of patients for surgery.
\n
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field.
\n
• Handle surgical specimens appropriately according to established protocols.
\n
• Operate and maintain surgical equipment safely and effectively.
\n
• Assist with surgical site preparation and draping.
\n
• Monitor the sterile field and identify potential breaks in sterile technique.
\n
• Follow infection-control, aseptic-technique, and patient-safety standards.
\n
• Maintain accurate documentation related to surgical procedures and supplies.
\n
• Assist with turnover and preparation of operating rooms between procedures.
\n
• Ensure instruments and equipment are properly handled and transported for sterilization.
\n
• Respond appropriately to urgent and emergent surgical situations.
\n
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment.
\n
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
\n
• Protect patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
\n
• Participate in quality-improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
\n
• Perform additional surgical technologist responsibilities as assigned.
\n

Qualifications\n

\n
• Minimum of 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience required.
\n
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
\n
• Surgical Technologist certification preferred/required based on applicable facility requirements.
\n
• Current BLS certification required.
\n
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, anatomy, and surgical instrumentation.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to function effectively in an operating room environment.
\n
• Strong understanding of infection prevention and surgical safety standards.
\n
• Ability to anticipate the needs of surgeons and other members of the surgical team.
\n
• Strong patient-care and communication skills.
\n
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
\n
• Strong critical-thinking and troubleshooting skills.
\n
• Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced surgical environment.
\n
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
\n
• Commitment to patient safety, sterile technique, and quality patient care.
\n
• Ability to participate in required call, weekend, and holiday coverage as applicable.
\n
