Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: OB Duration: 8 weeks Shift: 7A-7P Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Labor & Delivery License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring, STABLE (to be completed within 30 days of start) Must-Have: Experience with all phases of Labor and Postpartum care, as well as care of well babies. Description: ASAP start needed. Interviews conducted online. This is a Level III Nursery with 200 births per year. The facility has 4 Labor beds and 4 Postpartum beds. The patient types include low-risk patients. All high-risk patients are transferred out for labor and delivery. This is an LDRP unit, meaning the patient will stay on this unit for Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum care. The traveler must be comfortable with all phases as well as care of well babies. Required experience includes handling post-partum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, and feeders/growers. The unit also manages MSU surgical patient overflows. Low acuity patients may be present for IV antibiotics, swing bed, or rehab. There are no infectious patients or telemetry monitoring. The average patient ratio with Med/Surg patients is 1:2-3. The hospital has a low volume of deliveries, averaging 200 per year. A rooming-in model is utilized; there is no dedicated Nursery or Nursery RN. Nurses will care for babies as well. Patient Ratios are based on AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 for laboring patients, 1:1 for active labor, 1:3-4 for couplet care, and 1:2-3 for Med Surg. Support on the unit includes at least 2 nurses overnight and 3 nurses at times. There is no CNA on staff. A healthcare unit coordinator is available four days per week. Midwives provide most of the care, while an OB is available if needed. The charge nurse, phlebotomy, and respiratory therapy services are available 24/7. The charting system used is Cerner. Floating to other units may occur; however, tasks will not include patient assignments in those cases. Weekend rotation is every other weekend. There is no call schedule. Holiday expectations include working every other holiday. Time off must be approved by the manager. Scrub colors must be professional, with procedural scrubs provided for the OR only.
