Job Details Position: Hearing Screener – Newborn / Infant (Per Diem) Location: Jacobi – Bronx, NY 10461 Employment Type: Per Diem Shift: .003 Salary: $33.25 per hour Responsibilities Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Interest in working with newborns and infants. Perform newborn hearing screenings in both Well‑Baby and NICU nurseries, as well as in the mother’s hospital room. Document results in the electronic medical record. Confirm or reschedule outpatient appointments. Training Overview of the ear and hearing, and how screening tests relate to this knowledge. Knowledge of physiology of hearing. Hands‑on screening with equipment, troubleshooting, and interaction with newborns. Knowledge of work‑related software. Emergency procedures and infection control – proper training and certification through hospital mandated in‑services. Accessing interpreter services when necessary. Ability to handle newborns in nursery. Ability to explain and describe tests to parents. Ability to make decisions regarding which babies need to be screened, which can be screened, how long to screen each baby, and when to end a screening if conditions are not adequate. Communicate with the Director of Audiology, Audiologists, fellow Hearing Screeners, and support staff on a daily basis with any problems, questions, or comments.
