Part-Time Program Instructor

The Program Instructor is responsible for program instruction, program documentation, participant safety, maintaining skills and working at programming for the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center indoor and/or outdoor operations. Duties include, but are not limited to: Enforces all facility and patron rules during program and will maintain minimum number of program and safety in-service hours required by the department. Will also maintain proper head counts for program participants as required. If teaching aquatic programming, must ensure that all programs are operated with lifeguards present and on duty. Assists with cleaning and proper storage of instructional equipment after use. May assist with the setup of special event equipment, involving lifting and/or other labor-intensive duties. Will be primarily responsible for supervising program participants. Will be primarily responsible for the development and teaching, coaching, instructing, or assisting with departmental programs and special events at location in accordance with Town affiliated and authorized instructional guidelines and protocol. Document all program lesson plans, program registrations and other program operational reports and records required for program statistics and files. Follows all policies and procedures as described in the Town of Plainfield employee manual and all other town and department protocols, policies and guidelines including those outlined by Ellis and Associates Risk Management standards and other affiliated organizational values and protocols. Other related duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic understanding of swimming, aquatic programming and have experience teaching, coaching, or instructing children, young adults and or adults. In addition to, must be able to obtain: National Safety Council first aid and C.P.R. certification OR Jeff Ellis and Associates, National Pool and Waterpark Lifeguard License offered by the Town of Plainfield at the employee’s initial expense. Education and/or Experience Lifeguard and/or First Aid and CPR experience is preferred if teaching aquatics programming. Recreation or aquatic program certification in teaching, coaching, or instructing is also preferred. The following skills and abilities are either required or desired. Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Rec Trac. The ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment within established protocols and guidelines is required. The ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of current principles, codes, and safety protocols and risk management relating to recreation facility operation and programs is required. The ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines is required. A general understanding of accounting principles and practices and report writing, while paying close attention to detail is required. The ability to resolve conflicts between employees and between employees and guests is required. The ability remain current with all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements is required. First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications are required. The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required. The ability to speak, read and write in English is required.
