Position Responsibilities Greet all customers and provide them with prompt courteous service and assistance. Record (scan) the purchases of a customer into the cash register efficiently and accurately. Recognize or differentiate between all of the various types of produce merchandise carried in the store, including differences between varieties of similar classes of products (e.g., apples, lettuces, etc.). Collect money in the forms of cash or checks from customers and tender accurate change in accordance with company policies and procedures. Bag or package merchandise according to established company policies and procedures. Sort and return return-to-stock items (put-backs) back to their normal shelf locations with priority attention given to refrigerated and perishable items. Gather shopping carts and take them to designated areas and pickup points. Provide carryout service in accordance with the company’s guidelines. BOTTLES where applicable; Add up and record bottle returns into a cash register/bottle slip to provide customers with the most accurate and effective service possible. Comply with all safety standards while operating the bottle crushing equipment. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations Skills And Experience Retail experience with particular emphasis on Customer Service High standards for self and others Strong sense of integrity Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills Active participation in and contribution to the community Understanding of store operations, and customer service operations. Ability to assess the causes of operational issues. Creative problem solving; ability to troubleshoot and negotiate for win / win solutions. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, shift priorities, delegate appropriately, and follow up to ensure tasks are completed on or before schedule. Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. An understanding of retail store customer service and store operations. Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job functions – 17 years old. Demonstrated ability to learn tasks associated with the position, and the technical requirements of the job. Ability to develop individuals and a team to deliver exceptional levels of service. Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform the job functions Physical Requirements Perform frequent to continuous repetitive fingering, grasping, reaching and hand/arm motions while standing the majority of the shift. Continuous fine finger motions such as pinching, grasping when handling money. Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds on occasion. Push or pull up to 75 pounds on occasion. Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning materials, packaging materials, fresh fruits, vegetables, house plants/flowers and household cleaners. Have sufficient visual acuity to check identification cards, checks, invoices and other written documents. Work in and out of inclement weather when necessary Gather up to five shopping carts and push them to designated areas If trained, occasionally fill in for the customer service desk/kiosk associate, which requires processing lottery, Western Union, utility etc., transactions.
