Principal Software Engineer - Commerce - Zelle

Overall Purpose This position is a hands‑on, individual contributor technical leader involved in setting the standards ensuring excellence in quality of outputs across multiple teams. It involves partnering with cross‑functional teams and providing input to a broad range of initiatives. The role requires continuous learning, staying up to date with new technologies and industry best practices, and integrating those practices into the engineering organization. Essential Functions Partner with product management to craft product strategy, create product descriptions, and ensure alignment with technology roadmaps. Act as a thought leader and senior point of expertise on software engineering issues, industry trends, and emerging technologies. Coach and mentor team members and serve as a role model. Own technical product design and architecture. Create and present content for small‑to‑medium size groups. Work closely with customers to understand their needs and develop partnerships that improve Early Warning products. Collaborate with software engineering, product, and architecture teams to shape engineering approaches, share knowledge, and utilize experience. Develop, scope, and shape a departmental‑wide technical vision for the future. Design and engineer product/service solutions in alignment with the technology strategy roadmap, focusing on cloud, containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, and business growth. Build cross‑functional relationships to influence and motivate others; act as an internal catalyst for strategic change management. Support the company’s commitment to risk management and protect system and data integrity and confidentiality. The above responsibilities are a summary and are not exhaustive. The incumbent will perform additional tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field. Fifteen or more years of experience designing and developing complex software projects, with at least eight years in the FinTech domain. 1‑2 years implementing application solutions/services in the cloud using containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, and compliant security guidelines. Experience leading cross‑functional teams to create technical solutions. Effective communicator with exceptional public‑speaking skills; comfortable presenting to all levels within the company. Knowledge of SDLC best practices, Agile, Scrum, Lean, and DevOps practices. Proven track record designing and building complex end‑to‑end systems (full stack). Hands‑on experience with one or more of the following technologies: Java RESTful Web Services (Java, J2EE, JUnit, Tomcat) Microservices Architecture Spring Boot, Spring Core Kafka, Tibco EMS, or JMS Oracle PL/SQL JavaScript and frameworks (jQuery, AngularJS) Hands‑on experience in test automation at various levels (unit, component, integration, functional). Proven experience in OOA/OOD. Experience with CI/CD pipeline implementation (Git, Chef, Maven, Jenkins). Solid understanding of modern cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure). Experience with code repositories (Git, SVN), bug‑tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla), and wikis (Confluence). Background check and drug screening required. Preferred Qualifications M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or another technical field. Knowledge of Splunk, Altiris, and Zabbix. Hands‑on experience with AWS. Experience with database design and architectures. Expertise in Terraform or other cloud orchestration technologies. Experience with monitoring and alerting systems (AppDynamics). Experience with other programming languages (Java, C#, Ruby, Python, PHP). Knowledge of ACH/EFT. Knowledge of real‑time payment networks (RTP, FedNow). Experience migrating application services from on‑prem to cloud. AWS, Cloud, or Kubernetes certification. Physical Requirements Work is primarily sedentary, involving extensive use of a computer. Standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching may be required. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally. Requires visual acuity and dexterity. The base pay scale for this position in San Francisco, CA is: $207,000 - $311,000 per year. Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.
