Position Guide

Position: Transportation Utility Worker

Qualifications:

• Commercial Driver License/Alabama School Bus Certificate.
• Current and active application on file.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Such alternates to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports To:

• Coordinator of Transportation & Safety Services
• Principal or designee.

Job Goal:

Provide safe, clean efficient transportation and care of students so they may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the school system's curriculum and extracurricular program.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.

Essential Functions:

• Obeys all traffic laws.
• Observes all mandatory safety regulations for the school bus.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
• Keeps assigned bus clean.
• Keeps to assigned schedules.
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects by performing a pre-trip inspection.
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharges students only at authorized stops.
• Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
• Transports only authorized students.
• Reports all accidents and completes all required reports.
• Enforces all regulations relative to students on the bus.
• Checks bus at the end of each route to make sure all students are off.
• Becomes familiar with and strictly adheres to contents of the Talladega County Schools Bus Driver Manual.
• Loads students safely onto and off the bus.
• Makes certain that wheelchairs are locked and Q-strap brackets and other wheelchair apparatus are secure.
• Insure that all students follow the bus safety guidelines.
• Maintains proper and professional relationship with students and other employees at all times.
• Maintains confidentiality of special education students and the school system at all times.
• Drives school bus routes as assigned
• Ride bus, when not driving, to familiarize with routes throughout the district.
• Performs responsibilities of bus aide as needed.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Transportation & Safety Services or Shop Manager.
