Landfill Operations Manager

Job Summary Ensures the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence by effectively managing the day‑to‑day operations of the landfill. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ensure smooth operation of landfill: ongoing construction, permitting, leachate/gas management. Minimize operational costs while maximizing productivity, maintaining safety and environmental compliance. Reduce turnaround time for trucks in and out of site. Accurately track waste volume and weight. Act as liaison for community relationships when necessary. Monitor ongoing permitting issues. Comply with and ensure adherence to WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations. Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion. Oversee personnel needs of the department, including selecting, coaching, training employees, and evaluating performance; provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions. Assist in the budget process as required. Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of the landfill through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with supervisors and employees. Conduct and/or attend and contribute to periodic safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency. Provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner. Update and submit required reports in a timely manner. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) or equivalent. High School Diploma or GED (accredited) plus four (4) years of relevant work experience. Seven (7) years of relevant work experience in addition to the education requirement. Preferred Qualifications: none specified. Physical Requirements This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines.
