PCU RN Position

Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - 1 year of PCU experience or prior ICU experience - Excellent patient care - Great documentation - Cerner experience Description: Department includes care for patients with conditions such as pneumonia, post-operative knees and hips, and falls. The unit has a total of 12 beds plus 4 rooms for ICU, with an average census of 8 patients. Nurse to patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5, with ICU staffing at 1:3. Team nursing involves RN and LPN working together to manage a total of 7 patients. RNs will be required to titrate drips, including amiodarone, heparin, levophed, cardizem, dobutamine, and pressors. Charge nurses typically manage small patient assignments, and travelers may be asked to step into charge roles. A nurse supervisor provides support to both the emergency department and the floor, acting as a resource. CNA coverage is provided depending on the patient census, with 1 CNA for more than 6 patients. Remote telemetry systems are in place, and RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips. The scheduling process allows for self-scheduling, but travelers are expected to provide flexibility. Weekend requirements involve working every third weekend, typically including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holiday requirements include working 2 out of 3 holidays per year. There is a standby requirement with a 45-minute response time, depending on census levels. Floating to other areas may occur, especially in the emergency department, or staff may opt to go home if necessary. Scrub colors are any solid color. Unit-specific orientation includes 4 hours of computer-based training and 8 hours of floor training. All clinicians are required to clock in and out when providing care.
