Mechanic / Transportation Helper

Position Information This position provides mechanical and maintenance assistance in the Transportation Division under the direction of a Foreman or designee. Responsibilities include assisting bus mechanics and drivers, maintaining supplies for the assigned area, and upkeep of the Transportation grounds and buildings. Shift Details: 8 hours a day; 260 days on the calendar. Continuing Position: Employees have reasonable assurance of continued employment to the following school year. Work hours, locations, and times may vary. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Hourly Rate: $36.00 to $36.50. Position Type: Maintenance Trades Employee Grade 1. Required Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment for minor vehicle repairs and building maintenance. Basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance. Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing problems. Tire change, repair, and attaching snow chains on various vehicles. Effective collaboration with others. Following verbal and written instructions. Prioritizing, responding to emergencies, and re‑prioritizing as necessary. Accurate completion and maintenance of written records and forms. Licenses / Special Requirements Acceptable driving record based on an approved driver’s abstract or Motor Vehicle Record. Driver’s license verification and validation. Current Washington State Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements (to be provided by the District within 90 days of employment). First Aid/CPR Certification (to be provided by the District within 90 days of employment). Must be 18+ years old. Benefits The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) provides access to health care services. Benefits are provided to eligible positions through SEBB (School Employees Benefits Board). Eligibility for SEBB state health insurance coverage is determined by working 630 hours during the school year. Eligibility for a state retirement plan through the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) is determined upon hire and is based on a variety of factors.
