About the Role:

The RN Dayshift Emergency Department (ED) nurse plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients experiencing urgent and emergent health conditions. This position requires the ability to rapidly assess patient needs, prioritize care, and implement appropriate nursing interventions in a fast-paced environment. The nurse will collaborate closely with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, the role involves educating patients and their families about health conditions and post-discharge care to promote recovery and prevent complications. Ultimately, the RN in this role contributes significantly to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency department, improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• 1-2 years experience working in an emergency department or acute care setting is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN) or equivalent specialty certification.
• Previous experience in a high-volume emergency department.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.

Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments upon arrival to the emergency department, including vital signs, medical history, and presenting symptoms.
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and standards of care.
• Monitor patient status continuously, recognizing and responding promptly to changes in condition or emergencies.
• Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in electronic health records to maintain clear communication among the care team.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions to support ongoing care.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with infection control and safety regulations.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with emergency nursing best practices and protocols.

Skills:

The RN in the Emergency Department utilizes strong clinical assessment skills daily to quickly identify patient needs and prioritize care effectively. Critical thinking and decision-making abilities are essential for managing complex and rapidly changing patient conditions. Effective communication skills facilitate collaboration with physicians, specialists, patients, and families to ensure clear understanding and coordinated care. Time management and organizational skills help the nurse handle multiple patients and tasks efficiently during busy shifts. Additionally, proficiency with electronic health records and documentation systems ensures accurate and timely recording of patient information, which is vital for continuity of care.
