The Prince George's County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Water Resources Engineer (Engineer I/II), grade G24/G27 position, in the Environmental Program Section of the Stormwater Management Division.

About the Position: The Engineer I/II performs intermediate-level professional and technical work supporting complex engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and environmental data management functions for County regulatory programs. Working under close to general supervision with increasing independence, the position integrates engineering principles with geospatial technologies and geodatabase management to support National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and MS4 permit compliance, including stormwater management, watershed analysis, and water quality monitoring in accordance with Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) requirements. Responsibilities include acquiring, analyzing, and validating environmental and infrastructure data; maintaining and ensuring compliance of GIS geodatabases; and producing technically sound analyses and reporting deliverables within established timelines. The role also involves coordinating with engineers, GIS staff, contractors, and regulatory agencies to support data collection, reporting, and compliance efforts, as well as conducting field investigations to verify conditions and data accuracy.

About the Agency: The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
• OR
• A Professional Engineer (PE) License may be substituted for the degree.

Preferred Qualifications: Highly qualified candidates may also demonstrate the preferred qualifications listed below:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in engineering and data analysis using Geographic Information System (GIS) and related analytical tools.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) certification is preferred.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification may also be considered.

General Plan Information: The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31. A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans.
