2nd Shift Maintenance Technician

The 2nd Shift Maintenance Technician focuses primarily on preventive maintenance for CNC machines used to produce hydraulic manifolds, valves, and fluid power components. In this role, you keep machinery and equipment in optimal working condition to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency. You will also have opportunities to broaden your expertise by learning new skill sets, including maintenance on vehicle operations, low voltage systems, Tech 1–4 tasks, and specialty repairs.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on forging and machining equipment, with a focus on CNC machinery used for hydraulic manifolds, valves, and fluid power components.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
• Inspect machines regularly for wear, damage, and potential failures, and take corrective action to prevent unplanned downtime.
• Read and interpret schematics and diagrams to diagnose issues and perform accurate repairs.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
• Document all maintenance activities clearly and accurately, including work performed, parts used, and any issues identified.
• Report equipment problems and recurring issues promptly to ensure timely resolution and continuous improvement.
• Support vehicle and forklift maintenance as needed, including basic mechanical repairs and inspections.
• Assist with maintenance tasks involving low voltage systems, PLC controls, and electrical components under appropriate guidance.
• Perform specialty repairs and Tech 1–4 maintenance tasks as skills develop and training is completed.
• Follow all safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies to maintain a safe work environment.
• Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to schedule and complete maintenance with minimal impact on operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial forging and machining equipment, including CNC machines.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems; candidates with auto mechanic experience, vocational schooling, or shop class experience are suitable.
• Proficiency using hand and power tools for maintenance and repair work.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting schematics and diagrams for mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Basic computer skills for maintenance order submittals, documentation, and system management.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, including low voltage and PLC control, and ability to perform electrical troubleshooting under proper guidelines.
• Commitment to following safety standards and company procedures in all maintenance activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience performing maintenance on various forklifts.
• Experience in welding for repair and fabrication tasks.
• Knowledge of plumbing and HVAC systems for facility maintenance.
• Experience in construction or general building maintenance.
• Interest in learning and performing Tech 1–4 tasks and specialty repairs as part of ongoing skills development.

Work Environment

You will work in a world-class CNC machining operation equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and technology. This is a 2nd shift position, typically running from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with an average of 40–50 hours per week including post-shift overtime as needed. The environment is production-focused, with a strong emphasis on equipment reliability, safety, and adherence to established procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Union, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
