Finance Manager

Description

The Manager of Finance is responsible for the day-to-day financial management, accounting operations, internal controls, budgeting, cash management, investment accounting, audit coordination, and financial reporting of the school. This position supports the school mission through sound stewardship of financial resources and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Define, document, and maintain proper internal controls and segregation of duties for expense approvals, purchasing, accounts payable, electronic payments, cash receipts, and check signing.

• Maintain responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger.

• Oversee accounts payable operations and vendor payments.

• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and liquidity requirements.

• Prepare monthly cash flow requirements to monitor liquidity and funding needs.

• Reconcile balances between unrestricted and restricted cash accounts.

• Reconcile investment activities and ensure proper classification among unrestricted, temporarily restricted, and permanently restricted net assets.

• Prepare and review general ledger account reconciliations.

• Record payroll transactions.

• Coordinate annual operating and capital budget preparation.

• Monitor departmental spending against approved budgets.

• Serve as primary liaison for external audit activities and audit requests.

• Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and capital asset inventories.

• Prepare financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports.

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, donor restrictions, and internal control requirements.

• Maintain accounting policies and procedures documentation.

• Maintain good working relationships through effective communications between school community, various groups and outside authorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.

• CPA preferred but not required.

• Minimum four years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.

Other Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

• Experience with BlackBaud, Quickbooks and Sage Intacct a plus

• Experience with HRIS/payroll software
