Genetic Counselor (Temporary)

Job Description The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a temporary full‑time Genetic Counselor / Clinical Instructor (HS). Responsibilities Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of the prenatal genetic counseling services. Provide obstetrical genetic risk assessments in collaboration with the Antenatal Testing Unit Director. Facilitate the genetic testing process, including obtaining informed consent and disclosing results to patients for compliance measures. Provide patients and referring providers with genetic testing results, including risk estimates and recommendations. Collaborate and coordinate patient care with providers. Function as liaison between the Antenatal Testing Unit and genetic testing laboratories to address test orders. Follow procedures and policies for adherence to the directives of the genetic counseling services for patients at a state‑funded inner‑city hospital. Keep abreast of developments in genetics and genomics for compliance measures. Attend applicable meetings and conferences. Qualifications Board‑eligible or Board‑certified Genetic Counselor, preferably with 3+ years of experience. Must be able to function independently with minimal oversight and communicate, advise, write, and consult in a professional manner.
