POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Equipment Technician Repairman is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, testing, servicing, and preventive maintenance of Fire Department facilities, apparatus support systems, firefighting equipment, rescue equipment, emergency response tools, and related departmental assets. The position supports the operational readiness, safety, and regulatory compliance of Fire Department facilities and equipment through routine inspections, repairs, maintenance coordination, and recordkeeping. This position performs skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, grounds keeping, custodial, and equipment maintenance functions while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, occupational safety, and fire service standards. The Maintenance Equipment Technician Repairman serves as a critical support role in maintaining the department's operational preparedness and emergency response capabilities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fire Equipment Maintenance and Repair Inspect, maintain, repair, rebuild, test, and replace firefighting and emergency response equipment. Inspect equipment for wear, damage, obsolescence, and operational readiness. Troubleshoot and repair Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), breathing air systems, oxygen regulators, and related equipment when properly certified. Maintain, inspect, and repair rescue tools, rescue saws, hydraulic equipment, generators, pumps, compressors, ladders, nozzles, valves, hose appliances, and other fire service equipment. Repair and maintain small engines, motors, electrical devices, electronic safety equipment, and emergency scene support equipment. Conduct periodic testing and inspections required by manufacturer specifications, NFPA standards, departmental policies, and applicable regulations. Install, maintain, and remove equipment and markings on fire apparatus and department vehicles. Maintain accurate maintenance, testing, inspection, and repair records. Facility Maintenance Conduct routine inspections of fire stations, administrative facilities, and support structures. Perform general maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, painting, drywall repair, flooring repairs, and minor masonry work. Perform basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical maintenance within the scope of training and qualifications. Diagnose facility-related maintenance issues and coordinate repairs as necessary. Inspect and maintain overhead doors, motors, fuel systems, emergency generators, and facility support systems. Assist with facility improvement projects and renovations. Preventive Maintenance and Fleet Support Assist with developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules for departmental facilities and equipment. Coordinate servicing, inspections, and repairs with outside vendors, contractors, and service providers. Monitor contractor performance and verify completion of contracted work. Assist with inventory control and management of maintenance supplies, repair parts, and equipment. Refuel and maintain fuel storage systems and fuel containers in accordance with safety regulations. Support maintenance and service coordination for fire apparatus and departmental vehicles. Grounds, Custodial, and Operational Support Maintain station grounds, landscaping, sidewalks, parking areas, and exterior facilities. Perform custodial and housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a safe and professional work environment. Maintain storage areas, equipment rooms, and maintenance shops in an organized and safe condition. Remove snow, ice, debris, and other hazards from department property as assigned. Safety and Compliance Follow all applicable OSHA, Indiana OSHA, NFPA, EPA, Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and City safety requirements. Identify unsafe conditions and initiate corrective actions or notify appropriate personnel. Participate in safety training and emergency preparedness activities. Report workplace injuries, accidents, equipment failures, and safety concerns promptly. Administrative Duties Maintain maintenance logs, inspection reports, inventory records, and work orders. Prepare reports regarding repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment status. Assist department personnel and vendors regarding equipment maintenance matters. Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental operations.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Reading blueprints, diagrams, technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance instructions. Performing preventive maintenance inspections. Maintaining accurate records and documentation. Abilities Diagnose equipment and facility maintenance issues. Perform physically demanding work in various environmental conditions. Follow written and verbal instructions. Work independently with minimal supervision. Prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, vendors, and the public. Safely operate City vehicles, tools, and equipment. Respond appropriately during emergency situations. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or GED required. Valid Indiana Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Preferred: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related trade certifications. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain certifications deemed necessary by the Department. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in equipment repair, mechanical maintenance, facility maintenance, building trades, fire equipment maintenance, fleet maintenance, or a closely related field.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in fire stations, maintenance shops, storage facilities, outdoor environments, and emergency response support locations. Exposure may include: Extreme temperatures. The employee may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-back assignments as operational needs dictate.
