IT Quality/Test Engineer 1

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Quality/Test Engineer 1. The work will be done onsite in either Chicago, IL or Peoria, IL. This is a long-term 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $32/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

Job Summary

Cullerton Group is seeking an IT Quality/Test Engineer to support data quality initiatives across enterprise data platforms, workflows, and operational processes. This role will focus on designing and executing test cases for data pipelines, validating data quality standards, identifying defects, and supporting issue resolution efforts. The engineer will work closely with data engineering teams and data stewards to improve data accuracy, reliability, and operational efficiency. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to large-scale data initiatives while gaining exposure to cloud-based technologies, modern data platforms, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute test cases for data pipelines, workflows, and platform processes

• Validate data quality, accuracy, completeness, and reliability across enterprise systems

• Identify, document, and troubleshoot defects while validating corrective actions and fixes

• Support operational monitoring activities to ensure stable and efficient data flow

• Collaborate with data engineers, data stewards, and business stakeholders to improve data quality and reduce production risks

• Perform root cause analysis and recommend process improvements to enhance testing effectiveness

• Contribute to repeatable testing practices, operational readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field

• 1–2 years of experience in software testing, quality assurance, software development, or related technical roles

• Experience working with SQL, including querying and validating data within database environments such as Snowflake

• Experience with Java and Spring Boot development or testing environments

• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud computing platforms

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills

• Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail and quality-focused execution

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing data pipelines, ETL processes, or data platform applications

• Knowledge of cloud-based data architectures and modern data engineering practices

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering and data teams

• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and software development lifecycle processes

• Experience supporting enterprise-scale data quality and platform operations
