Equipment Service Technician

This position is responsible for installing, modifying, and maintaining sterilizers, autoclaves, and other equipment used in patient care, animal care, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) processes across the campus. Job Responsibilities: Coordinate all aspects of delivering high quality FM services; Maintain facilities related equipment (e.g., keys, Carpentry tools); Utilize strong understanding and background in applicable field. Respond to technical queries or issues to provide exceptional customer service and satisfaction; Escalate, as needed. Develop an understanding of Facilities maintenance responsibilities and contribute to their compliance. Perform rounds of facilities and equipment to ensure proper state and/ or operation; Maintain cleanliness throughout the facilities including accurate records in the systems. Ensure a safety focused mindset on all aspects of the position. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, modify, repair, calibrate, and test a wide variety of mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Serve as a first responder to urgent maintenance needs, diagnosing issues quickly and performing corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime and disruptions to operations. Complete assigned work orders thoroughly and on time, ensuring accurate documentation of labor, materials, findings, and corrective actions in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and department leads to coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities, contributing to long-term equipment reliability and performance. Adhere strictly to safety regulations, institutional protocols, and industry best practices in all tasks, while promoting a culture of safety awareness across the team. Communicate effectively with internal customers and stakeholders, providing exceptional service and timely updates regarding maintenance status and expectations. Participate in inspections, audits, and routine rounds to proactively identify maintenance needs and support compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. All employees are encouraged to actively participate in these performance management processes. Minimum Education and/or Training: High school diploma/ GED required. Minimum Experience: 2+ years as a mechanic working on steam, condensate, water and pneumatic systems in a hospital, research facility, or similar environment. 2+ years operating, troubleshooting and maintaining medical, research or cGMP autoclaves, process equipment and/or equipment of similar technical sophistication. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only: Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement Steam Engineer First or Third Class License preferred Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to understand and adapt to changing priorities. Performs a wide variety of duties in support of maintenance of facilities (e.g., plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs). Operates power tools and basic maintenance equipment. Skills in identifying problems and finding smart ways to fix them quick and effectively, making use of available resources (e.g., supplies, tools, materials) Exhibit good grasp of troubleshooting skills, techniques and processes required to resolve standard issues. Able to do more with available tools and resources and continues to improvise and optimize. Promptly acknowledges and responds to queries and troubleshoot issues under less supervision. Ability to recognize potential hazards, follow safety rules, and take precautions to prevent incidents (e.g., accidents, injuries, contamination). Follows safety procedures with occasional guidance. Identifies common risks and takes basic precautions. Reports safety concerns when noticed. Ability to work well with team members to achieve a common goal by helping, communicating, and supporting each other. Contributes to team efforts and communicates basic ideas. Listens to others and can give/ receive feedback. Demonstrates independence in resolving routine and non-routine queries.
