Job Title: Machine Operator – Slitting and Extrusion

Job Description

This role operates and maintains slitting and extrusion machinery that produces monoaxially oriented heat shrinkable film used in packaging and labeling for a wide range of consumer products. You will set up, run, and adjust production equipment, ensuring high-quality output in a fast-paced plastics manufacturing environment. The position involves hands-on mechanical work, regular material handling, and working a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Operate slitting and extrusion machines to manufacture monoaxially oriented heat shrinkable film for packaging and labeling applications.
• Load rolls of plastic film and other materials into production machines before running work orders.
• Perform machine set ups, including configuring settings and preparing equipment for different products and production runs.
• Execute machine changeovers efficiently when switching between products or work orders.
• Make routine adjustments to machines during production to maintain quality and throughput.
• Perform basic troubleshooting on machinery to resolve minor mechanical or operational issues.
• Monitor product quality throughout the run and communicate any issues promptly to the appropriate personnel.
• Follow detailed production work orders and ensure that all specifications, quantities, and timelines are met.
• Handle and move materials, including bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout 12-hour shifts.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, including proper use of required personal protective equipment.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in a modern, very clean manufacturing facility.
• Work effectively within a rotating 12-hour shift schedule on a 2-2-3 pattern, alternating between day and night shifts.

Essential Skills

• At least 2+ years of technical machine operating experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience performing machine operation, machine set up, and machine changeovers, not just basic button-pushing.
• Hands-on experience operating production machinery such as extrusion, slitting, molding, injection molding, blow molding, CNC, plastics injection molding, plastics extrusion, plastic molding machines, or other advanced production machines.
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and make adjustments on production equipment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly to load rolls of plastic film into machines.
• Comfort with bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling materials throughout a 12-hour shift.
• Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts on a 2-2-3 schedule, alternating every four weeks between 1st shift (7 AM – 7 PM) and 3rd shift (7 PM – 7 AM).
• Commitment to following safety procedures and consistently using required PPE, including safety glasses, steel toe shoes, and hair nets.
• Attention to detail and quality focus in a plastics manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience operating slitting, molding, blow molding, injection molding, or extrusion machines is strongly preferred.
• Experience in plastics manufacturing, including plastics injection molding, plastics extrusion, or plastic molding machines, is a plus.
• Experience with other advanced production machines, filling machines, press machines, or CNC equipment is beneficial.
• Familiarity with quality checks and working in a production environment with high standards for cleanliness and product quality.
• Ability to work effectively in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment and remain comfortable in both warm and cool conditions.
• Strong work ethic and reliability in a 24/7 rotating shift operation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Browns Summit, NC.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
