Licensed Veterinary Technician Position Summary Gladys Porter Zoo is seeking a motivated and hands-on Licensed Veterinary Technician to support the Animal Health team within a dynamic zoological hospital setting serving a collection of approximately 1,500 animals. This position focuses on direct patient care within a zoo and wildlife veterinary clinic , assisting with diagnostics, anesthesia, treatment, and daily hospital operations across a wide variety of species. The Technician works closely with veterinarians and senior staff to ensure high-quality care for both zoo animals and native wildlife patients. The ideal candidate is confident in clinical skills, adaptable across species, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail, teamwork, and responsiveness are essential to maintaining high standards of animal health and welfare. Key Responsibilities Assist in medicine and surgery Monitor anesthesia and recovery Assist with medications Provide care for hospitalized animals Assist with restraint Maintain records Assist wildlife rehab Participate in emergency response Minimum Qualifications Associate degree from an AVMA-accredited program Licensed or eligible within 6 months Strong clinical skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in exotics or wildlife Working Conditions & Requirements Lift up to 25 lbs Valid driver’s license About Gladys Porter Zoo Gladys Porter Zoo is committed to excellence in animal care, conservation, education, and community engagement.
