Substance Use Counselor

As a Substance Use Counselor, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based counseling services to individuals and groups, helping clients achieve and maintain recovery from substance use disorders. Responsibilities

• Provide individual counseling sessions to clients with substance use disorders.
• Facilitate group sessions focused on relapse prevention and recovery skills.
• Deliver psychoeducation to clients and groups on substance use and recovery topics.
• Document all services and client interactions accurately and within required timeframes.
• Participate actively in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings to coordinate care.
• Coordinate referrals to additional services and community resources as needed.
• Utilize evidence-based interventions, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Stages of Change, and recovery-oriented approaches.
• Maintain professional boundaries and uphold client confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

• For Counselor in Training (CIT): Current Louisiana ADRA Counselor in Training registration and eligibility to practice under an approved clinical supervisor; valid driver's license.
• For Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC): Current Louisiana LAC license in good standing with ADRA.
• Preferred: Experience working with co-occurring disorders.
• Preferred: Experience in community-based counseling settings.
• Preferred: Experience facilitating group counseling sessions.
