Supervisor Maintenance

Position Summary The Truck Shop Supervisor’s responsibilities include supervision of the day-to-day operations of the truck shop, mentoring and managing the workflow of the technicians to assure the Shop is functioning efficiently and safely while adhering to Company standards. Directing the preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs both minor and major on trucks, trailers, and vehicles within CRCT operating areas in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner. Assisting the Technicians as necessary with equipment inspections and diagnosis of mechanical difficulties and recommending needed repairs. Coordinates repairs and preventive maintenance schedules through the operations department to minimize impact to product movement. Documents all repairs and preventive maintenance according to Department of Transportation guidelines and maintains PM schedules to ensure a systematic maintenance program. Establishes and maintains vendor relations for outside repairs, parts, and supplies. Practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of safe and clean working environment for self and other. Education Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent required Degree from Vo-Tech of specialized training in diesel or auto mechanics field and four years’ experience with the service and repairs of class 8 tractors and semi-trailers or five years prior experience with the service and repairs of class 8 tractors and semi-trailers preferred. CDL with Hazmat Endorsement Experience Requirements Minimum of three years’ experience supervising a truck shop, fleet maintenance and Technicians Knowledge of Microsoft programs, Word, Excel, & Microsoft Outlook Experienced in planning and scheduling tractor and trailer preventive maintenance and repairs (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) Experienced in maintaining accurate and efficient maintenance records. Experience with overseeing parts and supply inventory Experience in purchasing parts and supplies. Experience in counseling employees about work-related issues and assisting employees to correct job-skill deficiencies by conducting or arranging training in repair or maintenance techniques, procedures, or equipment usage. Five years’ experience or Vo-Tech and four years performing preventive maintenance, service, inspections, tire work, major and minor repairs on class 8 tractors and semi-trailers. Experience and skill level to include the working knowledge of: Suspension, chassis, steering, 5th wheel drive lines, transmission, air brakes, wheel bearings and seals, external and internal engine components, electrical systems, interior cab components, AC systems, other components, and systems. Ability to disassemble and replace components such as brake shoes, brake cams, slack adjusters, drums, suspension parts, springs, airbags, 5th wheels, wheel bearings, seals, clutches, starters, alternator, fan hubs, water pumps, fan belts, transmission, third members, product pumps, AC components, internal and external engine component. Must have solid knowledge of extensive mechanical repair and trouble‑shooting techniques associated with Class 8 tractor and semi‑trailer. Inspect and, if necessary, road test vehicles upon completion of work to ensure quality of repairs performance Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation rules and regulations. Driving tractor trailer units as required to support the maintenance department. Must be willing to work flexible shifts and weekends. Must supply own hand tools. Major Accountabilities The day-to day operations of the truck shop and the scheduling to technicians and shop hours Determine PM schedules, and assignment for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill personnel Inspection, service, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment for a safe operation and compliance with Department of Transportation rules and regulations Provides assistance and training to technicians as needed Performs additional duties as assigned Documents all repairs for DOT required maintenance files Coordinate scheduling of equipment with operations and trucking supervisor Maintains clean safe working environment in truck shop Test, calibrate, and document testing of safety equipment that is needed to perform required maintenance activities Assist with training of employees with operation and safety items on truck and trailersProvides up‑to‑date communications and information to supervisors, co‑workers, and subordinates Maintaining an adequate and cost‑effective parts and supplies inventory Outside vendor equipment inspection and repair performance

EXPECTED RESULTS

Regular inspection, service, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment to ensure that all equipment is safe and in compliance with Department of Transportation rules. Assist shop technicians in providing pro‑active preventative maintenance, service, and repairs in a timely, safe, and cost‑effective practical manner. Assist shop technicians to ensure that equipment will complete DOT roadside inspections with no violations. Accurate and timely maintenance reports and records Maintain a clean organized workspace and truck shop while complying with disposal regulations of all generated waste
