Our vision is a healthy and empowered community for generations to come.The Dental Assistant works under the supervision of the Dental Services Manager and is responsible for a wide range of tasks in the Dental Center, including patient care, administrative duties, laboratory, and x-ray functions. The Dental Assistant position requires a diverse set of skills: clinical, clerical, interpersonal, and technological. The Dental assistant must have a license to conduct x-rays.As a member of the health center's integrated care team, the Dental Assistant will fulfill the following key functions and responsibilities towards the provision of patient-centered, coordinated patient care:Sterilizing dental instruments and equipment for each patient.Organizing and laying out instruments for Provider's use.Handing instruments and other materials to Provider during procedures.Providing patient care and assistance to Provider as needed.Taking X-Rays of patients' teeth.Make appointments, answer telephones and questions, making follow-up calls.Process billing and collections.Collecting and recording patient health histories, taking blood pressure and pulse.Scan Dental Forms in DentrixProcess and Follow up on Referrals.Deliver patient oral care instructions.Complete Dental Charting on Dentrix software.Conduct pre-visit planning and set up trays for the following day.Knowledge, skills, and abilities:Knowledge of sterile procedures; cleaning specifications of various dental equipment, fixtures, utensils, and related materials.Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and maintaining quality control standards.Knowledge of methods, procedures, and protocols for the handling and disposing of hazardous waste materials.Excellent customer service skills.Ability to foster a positive work environment.Excellent computer skills.Ability to make appointments, answer phones and questions, and contact patients for follow-up.Ability to process billing and collections.Provide a positive attitude and behavior.Minimum qualifications:License to operate X-Ray equipment in the state of MarylandDental Assistant licenses are a plusCurrent CPR certificationHigh School diploma or equivalentAbility to relate to culturally diverse patients and communityWhy work at CCI?Extensive benefits planGenerous PTO Plan403B Retirement Plan + Employer match up to 4%Tuition ReimbursementContinuing education assistance; can be used toward obtaining certifications, renewal of certifications, or possible conference attendance.Our providers are insured for malpractice under the Federal Tort Claims Act.Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Extended hours until 6:30 PM and Saturday shifts are also offered. Overtime opportunities are available and are currently voluntary; interested staff will be considered based on operational needs. Work location: This position is primarily based at the Ora Glen (Greenbelt) location. However, the selected candidate must be able to provide coverage at other dental sites, including Gaithersburg and Silver Spring, as needed.
